Miss International reaffirms strong ties with Binibining Pilipinas amid split rumors

Miss International Executive Director Stephen Diaz has put to rest ongoing speculation regarding a potential split between Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) and the prestigious international pageant, affirming that BPCI remains the official partner and franchise holder in the Philippines.

Diaz addressed the rumors during a media conference featuring Miss International 2025, Catalina Duque of Colombia, held at World Kitchens, Gateway 2 Mall, Araneta City, on July 16. He clarified that there is no truth to reports suggesting that the Miss International franchise would be withdrawn from Binibining Pilipinas.

“Several months ago, rumors spread that the Miss International franchise would leave the Binibining Pilipinas Organization. When I first read that, I thought, ‘At least they know,’” Diaz recounted. “As the executive director, I send all the licenses to the national director. Why are these people spreading rumors and stories?”

Diaz emphasized the value of maintaining harmony with national directors, stating, “If there’s one thing I want to avoid, it’s conflict with our national directors. It’s the last thing I want. At the same time, I don’t want to add stress to my job because I am also very focused on my work as a university professor.”

He reiterated that Miss International’s values are closely aligned with BPCI's. “There’s no reason for us not to continue with the BPCI. Why should we? The core values of Miss International are totally aligned with the BPCI. We are doing this because we believe in the integrity of the women competing in the pageant. They deserve the opportunity to be heard,” he said.

Addressing criticism from some in the pageant industry who have labeled Miss International as “boring,” Diaz offered a candid response. “It’s fun for the contestants to be part of the social media world, but the job of Miss International is not to make them famous. Our job is to give the contestants opportunities and ensure that, after this, they are ready to return to society.”

“It’s difficult to find a winner. What’s going to happen to them after the pageant? Five or ten years from now, they should not be ashamed to have joined Miss International. They should be able to show their kids and family that they were once part of Miss International,” he added.

Diaz closed by highlighting the Miss International pageant's distinctiveness. “Miss International is different. You can call us a boring pageant. Everything. But as far as we are concerned, we take care of our girls. We care about their future. That’s why, even if we are considered boring, like ten years from now, we know that they will not be ashamed of being part of Miss International.”
