The 9th Eddys honors the best in Philippine cinema

Newport World Resorts becomes the center stage as the 9th Entertainment Editors’ Choice, widely known as The Eddys, opens the local film awards season. This event once again celebrates the films and artists that captured audiences and shaped Philippine cinema over the past year.
Happening on Sunday, July 5, at the Ceremonial Hall of the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City, the awards night promises an evening of glamour, prestige, and celebration of the industry’s top talents.

Organized by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd), The Eddys will honor remarkable achievements in Philippine filmmaking across 14 competitive categories, highlighting works that have elevated local cinema through compelling storytelling, bold vision, and technical mastery.
Seven masterfully crafted films competing for Best Picture offer unique perspectives on the Filipino experience: Bar Boys: After School, Eraserheads: Combo on the Run, I’m Perfect, Journeyman, Quezon, Sunshine, and UnMarry.

Special honorees, whose contributions have made a lasting impact on entertainment and society, will also be acknowledged.
This year’s special awardees include Box Office Heroes Vice Ganda (for Star Cinema’s comedy-drama Call Me Mother), veteran actress Maricel Soriano and the cast of Meet, Greet, & Bye, screen partners Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino (My Love Will Make You Disappear), and Richard Gutierrez (Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins).

Three special distinctions will also be awarded.
The Isah V. Red Award, which honors individuals uplifting communities through meaningful service, goes this year to corporate leader and philanthropist Chaye Cabal Revilla and actor Donny Pangilinan.

Director and songwriter Joven Tan will receive the Joe Quirino Award for his journey from entertainment journalism to filmmaking, during which he has produced more than a dozen films.
Television reporter Lhar Santiago will be honored with the Manny Pichel Award for his decades-long contributions to entertainment journalism.

The star-studded ceremony, directed by Calvin Neria, will be hosted by Concert Queen Pops Fernandez and TV host Kim Atienza.
The program opens with a special production from Fred Moser and Kanata of Pinoy Big Brother, alongside the cast of advocacy drama I’m Perfect.

Rising singer-songwriter Isha Ponti will deliver a special performance, while Jamie Rivera will provide an emotional number for the posthumous tribute segment, a poignant highlight expected to bring a solemn pause to the evening.

The ceremony concludes with performances by Andrea Gutierrez and singer-songwriter David Young.
