RED CARPET: Stars grace Viva Films 'Love, NGO' premiere

Actors Jerald Napoles, Candy Pangilinan, director Darryl Yap, and other guests led the red carpet premiere of the comedy-drama film "Love, NGO" under Viva Films, which opens in theaters nationwide today, June 3.

"Love, NGO" tells the struggles of a man named Ngo (Jerald Napoles) suffering from a cleft lip and palate. The SM Cinema synopsis read:

Before meeting Tasha, Ngo’s life was defined by a balance of hard work, devotion, and personal struggle. A hardworking young man, he spent his days helping his mother (Gina Alajar) manage their small burger stand. In his free time, he found purpose volunteering at a cleft lip and palate foundation alongside a loyal group of friends who shared similar life experiences.

It was at the foundation that Ngo met his first love, Scarlet (Louise Delos Reyes). With the enthusiastic support of his friends, he prepared to court her, but their budding romance was met with harsh external prejudice. Because of Ngo’s condition, Scarlet’s family deeply disapproved of him; this reached a breaking point on the night of their first date when her brothers physically assaulted him to keep him away.

The incident shattered Ngo’s confidence, causing old insecurities to resurface. He began to distance himself from the friends who cared for him, causing them pain and frustration. Ultimately, Scarlet ended the courtship, telling him that he could not truly love her until he learned to love himself. Consumed by bitterness, Ngo began to believe the world had no place for someone like him.

However, a pivotal realization eventually took hold. Ngo began to see that by focusing on his pain, he had overlooked the genuine love, support, and acceptance that his mother and friends had always provided. He finally understood that the goodness he was seeking had been within his reach all along.
