With Father’s Day fast approaching, many of us are looking for meaningful ways to let our dads know how much they mean to us.

This year, give the gift of music. Bring the whole family and honor the man of the house at “Love Songs for My Father,” a special Father’s Day concert happening at Hacienda Isabella on June 27.

The concert will be headlined by Pop Diva Kuh Ledesma and the talented rising Filipino-American Nathan Randal, whose musical journey began with inspiration from his father. (Nathan proudly identifies as a halfie and embraces his Filipino heritage. He is genuinely proud of his roots and background.)

Nathan recalls being just three or four years old when his father introduced him to artists like Engelbert Humperdinck, Josh Turner, and Tom Jones. It’s no wonder that he now gravitates toward what he calls “classic songs”—meaningful, story-driven tunes from Broadway, oldies, and even today’s biggest pop hits. His love for this music stems from the foundation his father built.

He is especially excited to perform at “Love Songs for My Father,” as the setlist features many of the songs he once shared with his dad.

“Every song in this concert holds special meaning, but those about love, gratitude, and family remind me most of my bond with my father. They bring back memories of my childhood, listening to music and sharing moments with him. Whenever I sing those pieces, I feel like I’m telling part of our story.

“My dad really loved music,” Nathan shares. “He would sing whenever he took a break from work, let me sit on his lap, and share his favorite songs with me. He loved hearing me sing and always told me how proud he was whenever I did.”

But Nathan’s father gave him more than just a love for music.

“My father shaped me in so many ways beyond music. He taught me the importance of hard work, humility, respect, and staying true to myself. I learned that talent alone isn’t enough—you also need dedication, discipline, and a good heart. His values guide me both on and off the stage every day,” Nathan reflects.

Reflecting on how music became a part of his life, Nathan says, “I grew up in a family that loves music. I was always surrounded by it—waking up to the songs my parents played. Music became my comfort zone and helped me express myself more.”

“As I mentioned, I’ve been listening to all these old songs, especially those my father taught me. I remember singing ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ or Journey’s ‘Open Arms’ as young as six or seven. It all feels so nostalgic,” he says.

Nathan adds that his father didn’t formally teach him to sing, but motivated him nonetheless. “I taught myself and have been singing since I was nine.”

When asked how his friends react to old songs, Nathan says, “They don’t really listen to old music, so when they hear me sing these songs, some find it interesting.

Some tell me, ‘You sound like my dad.’ Others say, ‘If I close my eyes, you sound like a 40-year-old man.’ But I think the older songs have more meaning, tell richer stories, and have more character.

“Overall, the storytelling in those songs is purer and more genuine than in most current music. That’s why I want to share my appreciation for them with my family, friends, and audience,” he adds.

Among the classics, Nathan’s favorites include ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ and ‘To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before’—his dad’s favorites—as well as the Broadway hit ‘The Music of the Night.’

Nathan also remembers his father’s love for singing. “He has a much deeper, sterner voice—like Perry Como."

Nathan also enjoys modern acts like Ben & Ben and Cup of Joe, and he loves pop music. But if there’s one artist who truly inspires him, it’s Elvis Presley. “No one believed in him at first—he was like the Ugly Duckling. But he proved everyone wrong and became the King of Rock and Roll.”

Artists like him are exactly the kind of performers Kuh hopes to nurture through Hacienda Isabella’s A.R.T.E. Theater, whose name stands for Arts. Restaurant. Theater. Entertainment. The venue was established by OPM icon and Hacienda Isabella owner Kuh Ledesma as part of her long-standing commitment to supporting the arts and nurturing future generations of performers. The A.R.T.E. Theater is where Love Songs for My Father will be held, and it represents the latest chapter in Kuh’s efforts to build spaces where artists can learn, perform, and grow.

“My vision for this theater is for it to become a home for the arts, just like my vision when I established the Music Museum,” Kuh says. “I want it to be a space where young talents are discovered and developed. In fact, we’ve already held auditions and found several remarkable young singers whom I am mentoring and training. The theater gives them a platform to gain confidence, develop their skills, and experience the discipline and joy of performing before a live audience.”

While the venue has already hosted a number of successful productions—including this year’s Music and Magic reunion, Kuh’s Valentine’s Day concert Ikaw, and her recent birthday celebration Pray. Eat. Sing. A KUHlinary Birthday Concert—Kuh believes a Father’s Day concert carries a particularly meaningful message.

“A Father’s Day concert felt especially meaningful because fathers are often the quiet pillars of the family,” she explains. “Fathers work tirelessly, make countless sacrifices, and provide strength and stability, yet they don’t always receive the same level of recognition and celebration mothers do. Mother’s Day usually receives more attention, more fanfare, and larger celebrations, but I believe fathers deserve to be honored with the same appreciation and enthusiasm.”

Kuh also believes Nathan is the ideal artist to lead this celebration. She calls him a “very good young man” who is talented, respectful, and committed to improving his craft. Meanwhile, the young singer has nothing but kind words for his mentor.

“Working with Ms. Kuh has been one of the biggest blessings in my career. She taught me the importance of being professional, disciplined, and always giving my best, no matter the size of the audience. Beyond being an incredible performer, she genuinely supports and believes in young artists, and I’m grateful for everything I’ve learned from her,” he says.

As families come together to celebrate Father’s Day, Love Songs for My Father promises a magical night—one that Nathan hopes will bring fathers and their families closer together.

“Father’s Day is a celebration of the sacrifices and unconditional love fathers give. I hope this concert will help families reflect on that. I want them to leave the show feeling appreciated, loved, and reminded of how important family really is. If they leave with a smile, a cherished memory, and a deeper appreciation for one another, then we’ve accomplished something truly meaningful,” Nathan says.
