MTRCB allows screening of ‘Love, NGO’ after extensive review with NCDA

After undergoing a stringent review process and extensive dialogue with the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has cleared the local film Love, NGO for public screening with an R-16 classification.

The film was reviewed by a Committee composed of lawyer-Board Members Cesar S. Pareja, Maria Gabriela R. Concepcion, and Mynoa R. Sto. Domingo.

Produced by Viva Communications, Inc., the film underwent a meticulous review following concerns raised by NCDA regarding the portrayal of persons with disabilities (PWDs).

In addition, the MTRCB, led by Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto, met on Thursday with NCDA officials, headed by Executive Director Glenda Relova, and the film’s producers to clarify issues surrounding the material.

According to the Board, the discussions focused on ensuring sensitivity and responsible portrayal of persons with disabilities while also evaluating the film in its full context.

Despite the Board’s observation that the film contains seemingly discriminatory portrayals of persons with a speech impediment, as well as frequent vulgar language and sexually suggestive expressions, the MTRCB ultimately found that the movie, when viewed in its entirety, has redeeming value in its story and treatment.

MTRCB said the film offers a different perspective on the journey of the protagonist, or a PWD, the film portrays.

“The MTRCB appreciates the NCDA’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive and respectful media portrayals,” Sotto said, assuring the public that the MTRCB is a partner in safeguarding the dignity of the disability sector.

MTRCB Chairperson Sotto reiterated what she shared at Cine Expo 2026, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in helping Filipino families make informed choices.

“At the MTRCB, we continue to champion Responsableng Panonood or Responsible Viewing. RP is about helping Filipino families make informed choices while supporting a strong and growing film industry,” Sotto said.

“We believe that protecting viewers is a shared responsibility. The work does not begin or end with the MTRCB. It also involves exhibitors, distributors, producers, and everyone part of the cinema ecosystem,” she said.
