Anton Vinzon dedicates first leading role to his father: 'Papa, our dream has finally come true’

Former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Anton Vinzon dedicated his first leading television role to his father, acclaimed character actor Roi Vinzon, as he debuts in the action-drama series "Kamao," premiering on GMA Network on May 25.
"Papa, natupad na rin ang pangarap natin. (Papa, our dream has finally come true)," Anton expressed at the "Kamao" media conference held at Studio 6 of GMA Network on May 18.
Anton added, "It’s a huge responsibility to be given a project like this. The fear, nerves, and challenges never go away.
"But the joy outweighs everything. For me, I’m not the only lead here—everyone is a star in their own story, and I’m proud of them all."
"This is my first time, so I still get nervous, and sometimes I’m unsure of what I’m doing. There’s pressure, but now I’m here, and I’m with them.

"I’m grateful to Direk, the production team, and the writers for giving me this chance. I will give my all for 'Kamao,'" Anton said.
Anton admitted he felt nervous working alongside his father on the same series.
"I feel nervous because I’m working with my dad on this series. This is truly a tribute to him. I hope that when the pilot airs, he’ll be proud of me. My dad is very hands-on and really guides and teaches me.
"He’s a stage father, but more than that, I really love my dad. He’s a true veteran in the industry, and I truly admire him when it comes to acting and action," Anton added.
In the series, Anton plays Makmak, an amateur boxer who dreams of becoming a champion. But his toughest battles happen outside the ring. He gets caught up in the lies and controversies surrounding his former boxing champ father and endures his grandfather's unbending rules.
In the pursuit of the championship belt, Makmak learns that true victory is not measured by awards and accolades but by being triumphant over the battles in life.

Roi said he will always be grateful to the Kapuso network, which first gave him a break in the hit drama series "My Husband, My Lover" in 2021.
"I can work anywhere, but I really love GMA. This ‘Kamao’ feels like a reflection of our ‘My Husband, My Lover’ days. The talent coordinator told me I’d only be shooting for four days. I said, ‘Okay, I’ll take it.’
"But by Friday, things changed. I didn’t die or get hospitalized, but thank you, GMA, for the opportunity you’ve given me," Roi added.
Offering advice to young stars, Roi said, "Attitude is number one. Success in the industry is a long process, especially when you’re young and still learning. I still have a lot to learn. I told Direk, even if it takes two or three takes, I’m not embarrassed. Our young stars are respectful and talented—I haven’t seen anyone at GMA who’s rude. They’re all impressive."
GMA's first sports drama boasts a powerhouse cast bannered by Anton, along with some of the country's seasoned stars in film and television: Amy Austria, Wendell Ramos, Neil Ryan Sese, and Katrina Halili.

Also starring are Bruce Roeland, Therese Malvar, Chanty Videla, Tito Abdul, and Tito Marsy, Matt Lozano, and Euwenn Mikael.
Under the direction of L.A. Madridejos and Richard Arellano, with Kevin de Vela as associate director, "Kamao" highlights that true winning means discovering oneself more deeply and finding love, peace, and acceptance within the family.
Catch "Kamao" Mondays to Fridays at 3:20 p.m. on GMA-7 and Kapuso Stream.
