Vice Ganda hopeful that Leni Robredo will reconsider running for president in 2028

With two years left before the next presidential election, Unkabogable Star Vice Ganda continues to express hope that former Vice President Leni Robredo might change her mind and run in 2028.

"I'd still vote for Leni Robredo," Vice Ganda shared when asked about his choice for president in the 2028 elections, during a dinner with members and friends of the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) at Romulo's in Quezon City on April 27.

Recently, Leni announced that she would not seek a national position in the 2028 elections, preferring instead to remain in Naga City. Analysts believe this decision could weaken the opposition’s ability to counter Vice President Sara Duterte’s political ambitions.

Leni shared that she intends to run for a second term as mayor of Naga City, an independent city southeast of Manila, where she now serves in a quieter role compared to her challenging tenure as vice president under former President Rodrigo Duterte.

“I am certain that I will no longer run for any national position,” Leni stated in Bicol during a radio interview with RMN dwNX Naga.

Vice commented, "We'll see kasi marami naman ang nagsabi na kung sila lang, hindi na sila tatakbo dahil sa clamour at kagustuhang magsilbi. (We'll see, because many have said that if it were up to them, they wouldn’t run again—but sometimes there’s clamor and the desire to serve.)"

"Ang decision na tumakbo at maging pangulo ay hindi naman decision para sa sarili nila. Kaya maraming tao ang nababago ang decision dahil this is not just about me. (The decision to run for president is not made solely for oneself. That’s why many people change their minds—because it’s not just about them)," he added.

When asked if he would consider running for office himself in the future, Vice replied, "Ay hindi. (Definitely not.)"

"Marami na ang nag-offer noon pa, pero hindi. It's not my thing. (Many have offered in the past, but it’s not for me. Politics isn’t my thing)," the award-winning comedian remarked.

When told he has the qualities of a good public servant, Vice simply responded, "Hindi rin. (Not really.)"

The “It’s Showtime” host also said he knows his limits when it comes to talking about politicians in his jokes.

"Alam ko naman kung ano ang puwede at hindi puwede. Alam ko rin ang sobra sa sapat. Kaya sa sarili ko alam ko yun. (I make political jokes, but I am always mindful. I know what’s appropriate and what’s not, and I know my limits. I’m aware of that within myself.)"

"May gauge ako sa sarili ko, like kunsensya ko. At yung mga tao na nakapaligid sa akin, sila ang batayan ko. Hindi rin naman ako papayagan ng unit namin kung sumosobra na ako. (I have my own internal gauge, like my conscience. The people around me also guide me. My team wouldn’t let me go too far either)," Vice said.

Vice recalled that he once dreamed of becoming a lawyer when he was younger, which is why he studied political science.

"Noong bata pa ako, pero habang tumatanda tayo, nababago na ang mga gusto at interes natin. Pati mga decision natin. So mas nakikilala mo ang sarili mo. (When I was young, but as we grow older, our interests and desires change—so do our decisions. You get to know yourself better over time.)"

"Madalas, yung mga pangarap natin noong bata pa tayo ay nai-influence ng ibang tao.  So ako naman, influenced ako ng lolo ko at ng tatay ko. (Often, our childhood dreams are influenced by others. In my case, my grandfather and my father influenced me)," Vice added.
